complex. the comic. episode 1 - enter the roach
This is the beginning of the comic strip called complex. This introduces the main characters, charlie (some dude) and chache (some dude like life-sized roach)
This series will be reproduced again more clean and probably in color. I can’t decide yet whether I will use color all the time. But I wanted to start establishing the characters and putting something out there helps with this greatly.
I read that it is not ideal to start your webcomic with character backgrounds, this is not the really beginning of the strip so to speak but some iterations to refine the characters and to help have interactions to help define the characters.
I say stay with the grayscale. It would be a difficult task to decide what color chach should be. blue green brown? He has this nasty ashy-ness to him when he’s in gray, loks liek he just rolled out from under the couch. Funny idea for ya - play with the concept of how roaches scurry under the couch, charlie could come home and find him in all different weird positions due to his trying to act like a real cockroach. Maybe a character nuance could be that -at times- he instinctually forgets his size and you find him sleeping under the couch. Couch tilted almost on it’s edge cause he’s so huge. hehe Also I love Charlie’s hair-do - reminds me of a hat my brother used to wear…
Can’t wait to see what happens with Chach and Chuck in the future.

yeh I am thinking about the whole color approach. It could be good in black and white. I want to use color in certain areas. Will work with it. Yeh, the hat/hair, I would warn them, but these poor bastards will see the bats soon enough. Also, I am thinking about doing gross cut shots like Ren And Stimpy. Maybe the comic is in b&w but there are shots that are in color. Still haven’t decided.
